Contacting the correct service? 

Neighbour's dog leaving unwanted presents on your lawn? Unpleasant, but still not a 999 emergency.

Locked yourself out of your car? Annoying, yes, but not a 999 emergency.
If recovery or appropriate help is taking a while, try contacting a friend or family member who can help.

These were just a couple of real calls that our control room have received that didn't require reporting to 999.

999 is for emergencies that require an immediate policing response.
